Late planning didn’t hamper the success of the April 22 Poker Run at Four Corners in the Pipestone riding area this year. Planning team leader Don Kraft, Gallatin Gateway, got the ball rolling in December with a call to BLM’s Outdoor Recreational Planner Brad Colin. From this call, Montana Trail Vehicle Riders Association (MYVRA) and Friends of Pipestone(FOP) jointly committed to sponsor the event.
MTVRA received an AMA sanction and insurance for the event, FOP along with Don & Janet Kraft and their group of volunteers, and the BLM support worked to make the event a success. BLM issued a 10 year special use permit. If the event is successful with no problems, the event will be an annual event.
101 poker hands were sold, along with donations making it possible to send $3,530 to St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
Good weather helped as the weather was warm and sunny for April. The 2018 event is scheduled for April with planning getting underway this fall. The event will again be co-sponsored by FOP, MTVRA, and Don & Janet Kraft with their group of family and volunteers.
Many ‘thank you’ are due. To all the FOP volunteers that showed up to help with the stops on the trail, Don and crew for marking the route and organizing the volunteers. Thanks to Summit Motor Sports for their donation of funds and prizes. Thank you to Yellowstone Motorsports for the donation and for the use of their trailer on site. If the weather has been a normal April day, it would have been occupied with sign up and registration. Most of all, thank you to all the riders and families that came out and supported the event.
